Birth Injury Malpractice Trial Yields $130 Million Verdict
The family of a New York girl has been awarded $130 million in a jury verdict. The medical malpractice trial stemmed from 2002 when Shannon Reilly was deprived of oxygen during the birthing process. The jury found that St. Charles Hospital and Rehabilitation Center “departed from accepted obstetrical practice” in several ways. According to court records, that resulted in Shannon being deprived of oxygen just before birth. Shannon is unable to speak, walk, write or swallow without assistance.
