CDC Reports Meningitis Infections Rise to 294
In today’s update, the Centers for Disease Control have announced that those who’ve been infected with fungal meningitis related to tainted steroids or possibly other injectable pharmaceuticals manufactured by New England Compounding Center has grown to 294 people. That number includes 23 people who have succumbed to the deadly meningitis. Of the 294 patients, the CDC lists 10 New Hampshire meningitis patients.
There is the potential for the meningitis outbreak to grow well beyond the present numbers. Federal officials estimate that as many as 14,000 people may have been exposed to the tainted drugs made by the New England Compounding Center during the period in question-May 21 to September 26.
