Cerebral Palsy Birth Injury Malpractice Lawsuit Yields $74 Million Jury Verdict
A California jury agreed with the parents of a child born with cerebral palsy who claimed that the birth was botched due to the negligence of the doctor who performed the delivery. During the trial, attorneys for the family argued that the baby’s “heart rate was fluctuating wildly and the doctor didn’t hasten the birth or conduct a proper examination of cord blood.”
While the $74 million jury verdict is a clear victory for the family, a county judge will ultimately decide the final award amount.
Cerebral palsy is a major cause of birth defects in US childbirths and may be precipitated by medical malpractice on the part of the healthcare team.
