Erb’s Palsy Medical Malpractice Lawsuit Filed
An Illinois woman has filed a birth injury medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of her minor child after the child sustained brachial plexus injuries during childbirth.
On February 20, 2007, the expectant mother was admitted to Alton Memorial Hospital for induction of labor. Dr. Saji Jacob chose a vacuum assisted delivery . Despite this assistive measure, Dr. Jacob was unable to deliver the baby’s posterior shoulder from the birth canal. “The vacuum cup was then released and it was noted that the posterior shoulder has some weaknesses suggestive of Erb’s palsy, according to the Erb’s palsy lawsuit. The birth injury lawsuit further noted that the child suffered brachial plexus injuries and a broken clavicle during the delivery, suggestive of birth injury malpractice.
