Kansas Lawsuit Filed in Hepatitis C Outbreak
A Kansas woman who has been infected with hepatitis C has filed a civil lawsuit against the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. The lawsuit alleges that the hospital failed to inform law enforcement and public health officials that David Kwiatkowski had stole narcotics from the hospital in 2008. According to the Associated Press, the woman who filed the lawsuit “was treated at Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kan., to get a pacemaker. The Kansas health department said two other patients have been diagnosed with a strain of the virus closely related to the one Kwiatkowski carries.”
Meanwhile, in New Hampshire, Exeter Hospital is not cooperating with health officials who want the hospital to release health records as they continue to investigate the hepatitis C outbreak.
