Medical Malpractice Trial Garners $2.4 Million Verdict
An Illinois jury returned a verdict in favor of a family who lost their mother after she died at a hospital in 2007. The verdict awarded $2,439,544.36 to the estate of Sue Yates after she succumbed to a bowel obstruction two years after gastric bypass surgery. Ramona “Sue” Yates died on March 11, 2007, after seeking treatment in a hospital’s emergency room the evening before. Yates was suffering from severe back and abdominal pain which are well-known symptoms of bowel obstruction.
