VERDICT/SETTLEMENT
Facts/Liability:
Elmer Grover, age 70, was stopped at a red light on Route 101 in Bedford when he was rear-ended by a car driven by Susan Parker.
Injuries:
Mr. Grover suffered injuries to his back, leg and neck. He was taken to the Elliot Hospital by ambulance. He had x-rays and a CT scan and was discharged home with a diagnosis of abdominal contusion and neck and lumbar sprain. The following day he noticed a swollen abrasion/laceration on his leg. He went to the Cheshire Medical Center emergency department the following day where he was diagnosed with cellulitis. Due to ongoing back pain, he was ultimately diagnosed with a facet joint strain. He required a medial branch block by radiofrequency ablation. The procedure could not be done on an outpatient basis due to unrelated medical problems so Mr. Grover had to be admitted for several days. The procedure helped but the improvement was expected to last only a year or so.
